Paint your wagon
Changing the colour of your car is not only one of the easiest ways to customise your car, it’s also one of the easiest ways to customise your car that can go horribly wrong! If I had a quid for every teenager I know who decides that “painting” his car is as simple as just that… well, I’d have about enough for a one of the posh Heathrow transfers I’ve got my eye on for my next vacation.
Sometimes the effects of one of these dodgy paint jobs are so bad they’re funny. There’s a car in the car park at my apartment complex (sadly I have no idea who it belongs to, although I’m thinking of setting up a hidden camera to identify them) that has literally been painted black with matt paint. Matt paint. Not even gloss. It just looks like a toy cardboard car without the traditional shine that we’re used to seeing on paintwork.
The crazy thing is that customised paint jobs, at least fairly simple ones, don’t have to cost a fortune, and are a lot less than some of the fancy wheel trims and underlights that most teenagers seem to feel are essential items for their four-wheeled friend. Sure, if you’re a budding artist and have created a masterpiece that you would like transferred to the bodywork of your car, then that might stretch the finances a little. But a simple change of colour, even a couple of good old-fashioned “go faster” stripes, shouldn’t be out of the reach of your average spotty 17-year-old. Just put down the paintbrush, kid…
