Are car mileages big enough?
With the rise in the cost of fuel these days, it has become essential that you buy a car that gives you good mileage as this will save you a lot of money in the long run. There are many cars that are being sold these days with the promise of giving very high mileage, but how true are these claims of the car manufacturers?
It is very important not to give in to such kind of misleading information without actually doing a trial run of the car or talking to people who already have bought the same car. They will be the best people to advise you on how efficient the car actually is fuel wise.
However most of the manufacturers claim that their cars have the best mileage, it still seems not enough. Current the best mileage that you can find tops off at about 41 mpg highway and most of the cars that offer this are small cars such as the VW Jetta. Most sedans however, top off at around 28 mpg. What this means is that gas mileages has not changed much for average sized cars over the last 10-15 years.
There has been little change to the gasoline engine over the last 50 years whereas the price of oil has seen a drastic rise and up keep has also risen.
The concern for most people is that with these gas mileages not topping 30mpg and the price of oil and car maintenance rising, they may have to restrict their traveling. Others are opting to park their cars and take the trains or a cab.
It is about time that car manufacturers start analyzing and designing cars that give a higher mileage. However, the advent of hybrid cars is one boon in disguise for better mileage with a mixed source of energy. Although these cars are very efficient, they however cost more than your average sedan.
